Description

At the beginning of the 1980s, Barbara Bennett’s minister asked her to write a series of short meditative services for Holy Week. Most of the reflections in this book were produced for members of church to use at home as they prepared for Easter.

“The reflections are the imagined thoughts of those who witnessed the momentous events at the end of Jesus’ earthly life and his resurrection. In preparing this book I have added to them and extended their number.

“We too are able to witness to God’s goodness and presence in our lives. As I write this, the world is still in turmoil from the Covid 19 global pandemic. People of all faiths and none have shared their care and concern in the past twelve months and brought hope and cheer into very bleak times.

“As we read the stories of Jesus Christ and hear the voices of friends and onlookers we become involved with them. Strangers become friends just as we have built communities.

“God is present in the darkest of days; God never fails us. Jesus has left the Holy Spirit to inspire us to look to the future, to find God and take God’s hope out into the world.”

Barbara Bennett is a United Reformed Church minister who served churches in Porth & Treforest, Ilfracombe, Muddiford and Bude. A Great Cloud of Witnesses Part One and Part Two were published by the URC in 2011 and 2012.
